We all know that dog toys can get expensive. With two big dogs in the house we are always cleaning, repairing, or replacing dog toys. These awesome DIY dog toys give us a cost effective option that our boys really love!
You can make DIY dog toys for next to nothing. They’re so inexpensive compared to the ones at pet stores and online. I love it for my chewers…who will gnaw the feet, tags, and noses off of everything we bring into the house if we let them!
I love that with these DIY dog toys I can let them go to town without constantly having to redirect them to a chewing toy or an ‘outside toy’ that can be beaten up or ruined. They can do what they want with their DIY dog toys because they’re cheap and easy to make!
Why should I try DIY dog toys?
I was hesitant at first, I thought it would be a waste of time and then I’d just be back to buying toys. I’d recommending trying DIY dog toys like these listed below. They’re the most popular and the best ones we’ve been able to find. It’s a cheap way to give your pup something new to play with!
Are DIY dog toys sturdy?
It will depend what they’re made of, each tutorial is a little bit different. I’ve found that most of them are just as sturdy as toys I would buy them from the store or online.
I have two big dogs and one of them is only 4.5 months old right now so he’s into everything and constantly needs to be redirected to toys. Having new ones to introduce is super helpful and so far they’ve been holding up to his vigorous playing, tugging, chewing, and overall dragging about.
DIY dog toys and safety:
Make sure to pay attention to what you are using to make your DIY dog toys. Like all toys you’ll want to be sure to keep an eye on your pup while they are playing or chewing on them! Little pieces can come off, rip off, or be ingested if you don’t keep an eye on aggressive chewers.
I try and monitor our toy collection for wear and tear once a day as well! I toss or repair anything that needs it so that I don’t have to worry about anyone getting sick or injured. The same goes for DIY dog toys, you don’t want to let pets ingest them unless they’re intended to be used that way, ie. they’re food.
